Pick Up! AI Wants to Talk to You

What have you been up to? 

Today we are going to talk about creating an AI-integrated material. For this task, I collaborated with my usual group friends: Yağmur Kavak, Bilge Dilara Doğan, and Polat Öztürk. Click on their names if you would like to check their blogs. Firstly, we chose the topic "going on vacation abroad" for our material. Then we decided to focus on speaking skills. We wanted students to use the AI tool "Gemini" supported by Google. Gemini has a live-mode feature that you can use to have a one-to-one conversation. In the pre-task, students are to describe their dream vacation to Gemini by answering a few questions provided on the worksheet to ask for country recommendations. After deciding on the country, they are going to search for its tourist attractions, popular foods, festivals, etc. using the same tool. In the target task, they are going to tell their whole vacation adventure as if they went there on vacation, and at the end of their speech, the students are going to ask for detailed feedback on his/her speaking skills. Finally, for the post-task students are to record a video of themselves telling their experiences throughout the activity. 

We used Canva to prepare our material. Polat took care of the design while Bilge, Yağmur, and I prepared the instructions and the ASSURE plan. I enjoyed engaging with the AI tool, Gemini, though I did not like preparing the ASSURE plan.
